Trek tracker integrates with Google
Posted: 18/12/2007

GTrek, a new device to monitor individuals’ movement in order to create a detailed visual and statistical record, has launched to outdoor enthusiasts.

Aimed at skiers, mountain bikers, cyclists, walkers, golfers and outdoor hobbyists, the product uses GPS satellite technology to record the users’ exact position at regular intervals in order to build up a picture of their location and movement.

This data includes how far, how fast and how high the user has travelled and is presented as numerical information and also, as a ‘movement map’ – a visual representation of the information. By integrating with Google Earth, this movement map allows the user to see where they have travelled on a specific 3D terrain map, ideal for any outdoor pursuit, such as skiing, where routes are discussed and analysed by amateur and professionals alike.

The product can be configured to record as much as one location per second, giving over 16 hours storage or for periods in excess of 66 hours, allowing the user to develop a highly detailed or rather more general profile of there activity according to requirements.

As a stand-alone device it can record up to 65,000 individual records which are stored in internal memory ready to be downloaded to a PC. The product comes complete with chargers, all necessary leads and software which can be adapted to many different outdoor pursuits, presenting the information in an appropriate way for each activity – for example average and maximum altitude, average and maximum speed.

John Bird, co-founder of the GTrek, commented:

“We developed this product as a means of recording and displaying the type of information that an outdoor enthusiast, such as a skier for example, would want to see it in order to talk to their friends at the end of a day on the slopes. Google Earth represents an amazing opportunity for displaying this information in a way that really walks the user through where they have been and what they have done, allowing them to recreate their experience. Although there are obvious opportunities for this product in consumer activity markets such as skiing, golfing and mountain biking, there are potentially a great many applications in industry too, where it would be useful to have an exact record of movements – such as in transport and logistics.”

The product can be purchased on line at www.gtrek.co.uk. For more information, visit at www.gtrek.co.uk or call 01922 455299.
