Leeds Castle Summer concerts
Posted: 12/04/2007

This year’s Open Air Concert season at Leeds Castle, near Maidstone in Kent, offers patriotic al-fresco entertainment with an American twist.

Kicking off the summer season is a special Fourth of July Celebration, perfect for a family get together. All-day musical entertainment, including acts on tour from the USA, historical re-enactment and activities plus the castle’s many other attractions. A nostalgic concert of Glen Miller classics with firework finale in the evening is a must for music lovers and any homesick American expatriates.

On 5th July, the Bootleg Blues Brothers recreate the energy and excitement of Dan Ackroyd and John Belushi. The duo will storm the stage with a cavalcade of hits, routines and fun, bringing the 1980s cult film to life for fans and fun-seekers. A “night glow” hot air balloon finale adds to the magic of the event.

The James Bond Spectacular on 6th July introduced by special guest Honor Blackman, the original Pussy Galore, is guaranteed to leave audiences shaken and stirred. A fantastic evening of James Bond film classics with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Carl Davis and featuring soloists Mary Carewe and Jon Christos. Stunts, pyrotechnics and special effects add to the spectacle. Several Bond films feature scenes shot on location in America, and David Niven – the original 007 in Casino Royale – was a favourite houseguest of Lady Baillie, Leeds Castle’s last private owner. Come dressed as a Bond character to win prizes, and book early – this is the hot ticket of the year!

There’s a new location and a new programme for the original, biggest and best Open Air Classical Concert on 7th July. This year celebrates American classics from the Wild West to Broadway with a sprinkling of Hollywood magic, performed by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. There’s even a short Charlie Chaplin film to live soundtrack adding a touch of comedy. And of course the finale will feature the 1812 overture with cannons and fireworks, and all the patriotic British greats to stir the spirits.

Tickets for the Glenn Miller Evening Concert and Bootleg Blues Brothers Concert cost £18.00 per person. Tickets for the James Bond Spectacular cost £28.00 per person. Tickets for the Open Air Classical concert cost £32.00 unseated; £38.00 seated. Tickets can be booked online at www.leeds-castle.com/dv or by calling the Leeds Castle Box Office on 01622 880008, open weekdays from 10am – 5pm (Booking fee applies).
