ANTIGUA Marriage in Antigua is quite simple: visit the Ministry of Justice located on Lower Nevis Street in downtown St. John's with your valid passports, complete the application and pay applicable fees.Confirm a date and time for the ceremony with a Marriage Officer, and ...get married!! • You both will need valid passports as proof of citizenship. • If either of you have been previously married, then bring along the original divorce decree or, in the case of a widow or widower, the original marriage and death certificates. • Both parties must be over 15, if under 18, written authorization from your parents or guardians is required. • It is important that all documents presented are original or certified original by the issuing departments or offices. • Ensure that all documents are in your legal name, and provide affidavits in cases where you are known by another name. • Your marriage must also be solemnized or celebrated in the presence of two or more witnesses, apart from the Marriage Officer. (Just ask a guest or two to do this for you). Marriages do not have to be conducted in a Church or Registry Office - this matter should be discussed with the Marriage Celebrant (i.e. the person who will perform the marriage ceremony). The "Notice of Intended Marriage" form should be obtained from the person performing the wedding ceremony in Australia .The "Notice Of Intended Marriage" form must be signed in the presence of and witnessed by either: * a UK Notary Public (lists of these can be found in the Yellow Pages phone book under "Notaries" or "Notaries Public" or by contacting your nearest UK solicitor's office); oran Australian Consular Officer at the Australian High Commission in LondonA "Notice of Intended Marriage" can be witnessed by a Consular Officer at the Australian High Commission in London between 9.30am and 3.30pm, Monday to Friday. No appointment is necessary. You will need to stay overnight in Jakarta and then have all of the legalities taken care of at the British Embassy on a Monday or Tuesday. The documents required are • Valid Passports or the original or certified copies of birth certificates. • An original Decree Absolute or a certified copy of the final Judgement in the case of divorce by either party. • A certified copy of the marriage certificate and Death Certificate in case either party was married and widowed. • All documents not in English must be accompanied by a certified translation. The legal formalities only take about fifteen minutes. The fee is FjD$20 and the licence is valid for 21 days. • The minimum residency before your wedding is 1 working day. • You will be required to produce your original birth certificates and a valid 10-year passport. • If you are divorced you will be required to produce your Decree Absolute with court stamp. • If either of you are widowed the death certificate of your deceased spouse must be produced. • The minimum age to marry without parental consent is 21 years of age. If you are under this age you will need to obtain an affidavit made by your father giving consent. • If your name has been changed by Deed Poll you must provide the legal proof stamped and signed by a solicitor. This also applies if you are a divorced woman have reverted back to your maiden name. Operators: Kuoni, Weddings & Honeymoons Abroad ------------------------------------------------------------------------ FRANCE • You must be resident in France for 40 days before a religious ceremony • A civil ceremony always preceeds a religious ceremony in France and is the legal element of the wedding. For this reason foreign nationals are often advised to have a civil ceremony in their own country followed by a religious or symbolic ceremony in France. Operators: Sédohr, Piece Montee, Weddings Abroad ------------------------------------------------------------------------ GRENADA You must be a resident for four days prior to the wedding * Valid ten-year passport * Original Birth Certificates * You must provide your full names, addresses, occupations and religions, plus those of your parents * If divorced, you will need to take your Decree Absolut with the Court Stamp * Sworn and signed affidavit stating that both parties are single and free to marry o If widowed, your deceased spouse's death certificate, and your previous marriage certificate must be produced. * If either of you are under 21 years of age, evidence of parental consent in the form of a sworn Affidavit must be provided * If name has been changed by Deed Poll, you will need to provide legal proof * If you are adopted, the adoption certificate is required. Depending on the Municipality the marriage is taking place in, you are required to sign a Declaration of Intent to Marry two to five days prior to your wedding. the ceremony. Contact the Italian Embassy for details of Register Offices where you can book your ceremony and arrange for an interpreter. • Some Register Offices in Italy will require you to sign a Declaration of Intention to Marry 2 to 4 days prior to your marriage ceremony so you should check with the iindividual Registrar. • Full birth certificates and 10-year passports will be required for proof of identity. • A Certificate of No Impediment must be obtained from your local Register Office. • An official copy of your decree absolute will be required. A re-marriage for a divorced woman cannot take place for three hundred days after the dissolution of her previous marriage. • If either of you are widowed you will need to produce the death certificate of your deceased spouse. • You must both be eighteen or over to marry in Italy. If you are below this age you must obtain parental consent in the form of a sworn affidavit. Operators: Best Italian Weddings, Italian Wedding Planners, Weddings Made In Italy ------------------------------------------------------------------------ JAMAICA You must have a marriage licence, which should be obtained from the Ministry of National Security prior to your arrival. It usually takes about four weeks to obtain a marriage licence, and certain documentation is required. You must arrive on the island at least 24 hours before the wedding ceremony. The following documents must be submitted when applying for the marriage licence: • The full names of the bride and the groom (first, middle and last names) • The full names of the mother and father of the bride and the groom (first, middle and llast names) • The originals or certified copies of the Birth Certificates of the bride and the groom • The occupations of the bride and the groom • If either the bride or the groom has been married before, either death certificate of the deceased or the divorce papers (originals or certified copies) • Parents written consent of either bride or groom if under 21 years old. This must be a sealed document and contain the words "solicitor", "notary public" or "Commissioner of Oaths". Handwritten documents are not accepted * If you are widowed, your deceased spouse's death certificate and your previous marriage certificate must be produced * If either of you are under 21 years of age, you must obtain parental consent in the form of a Statutory Declaration, and be stamped and signed by a solicitor * If name has been changed by Deed Poll, you will need to provide legal proof * If you are adopted, the adoption certificate is required. Further Considerations Normal residency in Kenya is 21 days. However a Special Licence can be obtained before hand. When this licence has been obtained, there is no period of residency. If you are getting married within ten months of the divorce pronouncement, you will need proof that the bride is not pregnant * If you are widowed, your deceased spouse's death certificate and your previous marriage certificate must be produced * If either of you is under 18 years of age, evidence of parental consent in the form of a sworn Affidavit must be provided * If name has been changed by Deed Poll, you will need to provide legal proof. Further Considerations Once you arrive in Mauritius, you must go to the main Registrar's Office to sign an affidavit to confirm that you are both free to marry. If the bride's parents are not married, then the consent of her mother will be accepted * If name has been changed by Deed Poll, you will need to provide legal proof. Further Considerations You must normally be in the Seychelles for eleven days before your wedding. However this can be exempted by applying for a Special License. This is normally issued two days after the application and you can be married immediately afterwards. The Seychelles government only recognises civil weddings. Further Considerations Getting married in Sri Lanka is a relatively simple process. Marrying on this beautiful, and as yet unspoiled island, can make for a dream wedding. Further considerations The residency period is four days – after two days you can make an application for a marriage licence which takes two days to process. Those who are not a French National must have a minimum of one months residency. Further considerations Getting married in Thailand is purely an administrative affair, which takes place in a registry office in Bangkok.
