Classic Car Journeys launches with “Classic India 2007” A brand new holiday company is combining the magic of Southern India with the charm and elegance of classic cars to create the experience of a lifetime – and all at prices that don’t require a second mortgage! Classic Car Journeys’ “Classic India 2007” offers a unique opportunity to experience the people, the panoramas, the history and the hospitality of this stunning country from behind the wheel of a classic 1950s-style Morris Oxford. The twelve-day itinerary includes eight days of travelling through the Western Ghats mountain range, the tea plantations and the Indian Ocean coastline of Southern India. Taking in the states of Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, “Classic India 2007” combines four- and five-star luxury accommodation with fascinating visits and fantastic driving. Steve McCullagh, Managing Director of Classic Car Journeys, comments: “The Southern States of India are awe-inspiring and - whether it is the illuminated Maharaja’s Palace in Mysore, the Raj-era hill fort at “Ooty” or the vastness of the emerald green tea plantations – everywhere you turn you see another jaw-dropping scene. To travel through a landscape like this in a classic car, together with like-minded people, is just wonderful - and it is that sense of wonder which underpins the Classic Car Journeys experience.” Classic Car Journeys is the brainchild of Steve McCullagh, a car nut, travel nut and all-round force of nature whose only participation in the Monte Carlo Rally – in a 1960’s Ford Anglia - saw him awarded the Top Novice and Second-in-Class trophies. Clearly, Steve doesn’t do anything by halves. Having agreed last year to organise a trip to Southern India “for a few mates,” he ended up giving 60 of his closest friends the holiday of a lifetime and being urged to “do it again and offer it to everyone.” So this year, Steve is doing just that. “Before we set off, I knew last year’s trip was going to be special, but nothing prepared me for the way in which people reacted once they were there. Time and again, I heard phrases like “wonderful,” “unbelievable” and “absolutely fabulous” and many people asked me to organise more tours and to open them to anyone who would like to come along. As a result, “Classic India 2007” will be running from 25 October to 5 November – and we have plans for Classic Car Journeys to the Himalayas and to Vietnam. Each journey will cater for around 60 people and will combine stunning landscapes with a great driving experience. “Guests on “Classic India 2006” saw a band playing a send-off at the start line, enjoyed a visit from a beautifully decorated and adorned elephant, spent time relaxing in style on traditional houseboats and enjoyed the wonderful hospitality of local people. They stayed in fantastic hotels, including former maharajas’ palaces, ate the very best in Southern Indian cuisine and drove wonderful classic cars through breathtaking landscapes. “Classic India 2007” will be all that and more,” Steve concludes. - “Classic India 2007” costs £1,799 per person if booking before 28 February 2007, or £1,899 if booking after 28 February.
