Nobles Venues > Basildon Park

.

A striking Palladian mansion set in extensive parkland.

Basildon Park was built between 1776 and 1783 and was the home of Sir Francis Sykes, a man who had made his fortune in India.

The property fell on hard times in the early part of the last century, but was rescued by Lord and Lady Iliffe, who lovingly restored it and filled it with fine pictures and furniture.

Today Basildon illustrates the high life of the 18th-century and was used as a location in the 2005 feature film adaptation of Jane Austen's classic 'Pride and Prejudice'.
