Country Houses are amongst England's finest creations, more than just a home, they represent a way of life. At Horsted we combine comfort with style, sporting activity with relaxation, good food with great wines, and friendly staff with efficient service to offer our guests the complete country house experience in an idyllic setting. The hotel has 20 bedrooms and suites, a magnificent Victorian Drawing Room, Morning Room, Library and Dining Room, as well as a tennis court and croquet lawn. It sits in its own 1,100 acre estate. Built by George Myers in 1850 for Francis Barchard, much of the detail was designed by Augustus Pugin, and Horsted Place is one of the finest examples of Gothic revivalist architecture to be found in Britain today. Untouched until 1965, the house was sold by the last of the Barchards to Lord and Lady Rupert Nevill who undertook a complete refurbishment and commissioned Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe to landscape the ground and gardens. As Treasurer and long-standing friend of the Duke of Edinburgh, Lord Rupert Nevill regularly entertained H.M. The Queen and H.R.H. Prince Philip at Horsted Place. When visiting the Nevills, The Royal Family used to walk to Little Horsted's 10th Century Church for Sunday service. In 1986 Horsted Place changed hands again and opened as a Country House Hotel. The present owners acquired the hotel in March 2000 and continue to offer the gracious living of Victorian times, combined with today's comfort.
