Surfing is an exhilirating, addictive and seriously healthy sport.
Nick has been surfing since the 1970's, holding a BSA Instructors Qualification for the last 13 of those years.
Dan came on board in 2005 to help meet the ever increasing demand for surf school lessons. A qualified and experienced Life Guard, he's been surfing for 10 years and is a level 2 BSA Instructor.



Although modern surfing first came to Saltburn in the mid 1960's the presence of a Saltburn Surf Hire business materialised in June '83 when Nick started hiring boards and wetsuits from the back of a van parked at the top of the Pier slipway. Since those humble beginnings the Saltburn Surf Scene has grown tremendously and attracts people of all ages and backgrounds whilst maintaining a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
Saltburn continues to be an excellent place to learn to surf with its gently shelving, extensive sandy beach, good prevailing sea conditions and all within a picturesque backdrop. Lessons can be arranged either on an individual basis or for groups.
During the summer months of June, July, August & September we also run regular classes for both adults and children.

A typical lesson lasts 1 and a half to 2 hours and includes 15 to 20 minutes 'dry land' instruction on the beach with a thourough safety briefing. We provide all of the equipment but please bringL - towel - bathing costume/trunks - waterproof sunblock and some post lesson warm clothing.
Please note that lessons may have to be re-scheduled if conditions are not suitable. You will usually be asked to ring us - first thing on the day of the lesson - to get the final go-ahead. Then the fun begins...
