Leisure Venue Description:

The renowned salmon river, the Findhorn, flows within 100 metres of Tomatin House and offers exciting salmon fishing right on the doorstep. Extending to around 2½ miles of single bank, with ten named pools and numerous productive runs or lies in between, there is a wide choice of fishing for up to six rods. [Fishing in the river] The salmon arrive in April/May and can provide exciting sport until the season closes at the end of September. Fishing is by fly only, with many pools easy for novices to cover. There is also a healthy stock of brown trout in the river, with fish up to 5lbs being caught in recent years; the occasional sea trout may also be caught. The average weight of salmon caught over recent years has been around 8 to 10 lbs (3.5 to 4.5 kilos), but many years have seen fish over 20 lbs (9 kilos) landed.
